CHP NewsBytes – Welcome Edition

We tend to use a number of abbreviations that are helpful to know:CHP = Campus Honors Program.  Students in the CHP are Chancellor’s Scholars.HoHo = Honors House, 1205 West Oregon Street, Urbana, Illinois 61801 (where many of your classes will be in the future), currently available to meet with staff 8:30 – 5 p.m. M-F unless otherwise noted, and open 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. Monday – Thursday, with CHP Student Advisors available; the Honors House is available for studying, and some SAS programs and HSC events.HSC = Honors Student Council, the student organization that plans great programs for all Chancellor’s Scholars.  Current officers are listed below.  HSC meetings are open to all Chancellor’s Scholars, with more info on the fall schedule for other meetings and events to follow.SAS = Scholar Adventurers Series of faculty lectures and special workshops (students are required to do 8 over their time at UI) will be announced for this semester in the next couple of weeks, and sign-up will be open when announced through a couple days before each program.KDR = Krannert Dress Rehearsals happen each semester, and you only need to attend 1 in your 4 years (and will be announced in NewsBytes, and available on first-registered basis), and if not otherwise specified, the talk and performance will be held in the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts (KCPA), 500 S. Goodwin, Urbana. Publications:  The CHP Annual has been sent to your home, and can be found at https://honors.illinois.edu/annual-newsletter/. You can help contribute to stories by joining HSC’s Publication Committee and/or contacting Elizabeth Rockman at rockman@illinois.edu. CHP’s Equinox Literary Arts Magazine is also managed by Honors Student Council (watch your e-mail for how to get involved), and NewBytes, this CHP electronic e-newsletter, is sent on Mondays, and items can be sent to rockman@illinois.edu.

Honors Student Council Meetings start Tuesday, August 30 at 6 p.m. (Honors After Dark will begin bi-weekly the following Tuesday, September 6, at 7 p.m.), and for now are scheduled to be in 166 Bevier Hall! All students are welcome to join one of the HSC Committees. Your HSC Exec Board Officers for this year are:
